orange clothing usually elicits an immediate, visceral reaction. in a primal sense, we probably associate it with danger and poison - lots of bright orange animals and plants are highly toxic. throughout most of western history it was considered ugly and generally wasn't included in the fall color palette with reds, golds, and browns until the 19th century. in modern america, we might associate orange with prison jumpsuits, or safety vests. in buddhism, however, orange symbolizes high illumination and perfection. orange can be used to signify a quest for knowledge, as well as a sign of fertility and abundance when worn by pomona, the goddess of fruitful abundance. love that.
