slime green doesn’t really show up in fashion history until the 1800s. it wasn’t until scheele’s green - a poisonous, yellowish green pigment named for the chemist who discovered it in 1775 - was created that chartreuse really hit fashion. traditional clothing shops started opening up in the early 19th century (think "browsing" as a brand new concept, instead of ordering custom clothing or making everything yourself), and shoppers looked awesome until the copper arsenite in the dye slowly killed them!
